After six weeks of pure childhood bliss, September marks the month of the dreaded “Back to School” season, when children across the land head back to the classroom and you get back to business. No matter how many times you have wanted to pull your hair out, invest in a clone or consider boarding school, as a parent, your child’s back-to-school nerves are never nice to see. You may not be able to stop the inevitable first-week nerves but you can help to make their day!

Meet Danielle Hughes, Owner and Chief Cake Taster at Bake My Day Liverpool, who with a little sprinkle and a lot of sponge, is helping to bake your child’s day.

Hi Danielle, tell us a little bit about yourself and Bake My Day...

Bake My Day Liverpool started around 5 years ago as a hobby outside of my full-time role. I then called it a day and went travelling but thought about baking often. In 2018, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, Luca. Whilst on maternity leave, I decided to build my business back up which meant that I could work around looking after him. April 2019 I was ready to get baking and work most days, there is nothing I love more than being creative!

What types of sweet treats do you bake and for what occasions?

From homemade cakes to rocky roads, I have baked for plenty of occasions from baby showers to birthday, thank you cakes to congratulations!

What is it about cakes that can help to make someone’s day? What treats can you bake for Back to School?

I can bake whatever takes your fancy really, cupcakes are always most popular, however, I am always up for trying new flavours & always happy to bake Vegan too.

What’s your favourite cake?

My favourite has to be a classic victoria sponge with Raspberry Jam filling! My mouth is watering thinking about it!
